Wavelength
a property of a wave that is the distance between the crests (or troughs) of two consecutive waves.
Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP)
WIMPs are hypothesized sub-atomic particles that interact only through gravity and the weak force.
Whirlpool Galaxy
discovered by Charles Messier in 1773, the Whirlpool Galaxy is one of the most striking examples of a grand spiral formation.
White Dwarf
the dense core of a star like the Sun as it ends its life. A white dwarf has as much mass as the Sun, but the diameter of the Earth.

special mirrors that are able to reflect x-rays.
Wolter Telescope
X-ray telescopes that use Wolter mirrors to focus x-rays.
Worldship
a theoretical space craft that serves as the home to the civilization that inhabits it. It differs from a generation ship in that residents of a worldship are not necessarily looking for any planet on which to settle.
